Hip-hop is a style of music created by the black community in cities across the United States from the early 70's. It has many styles, and has evolved a lot over the years, but usually involves rapping or talking rhythmically over a beat or some pre-recorded music.
Most hip-hop artists you know and love today couldn't have achieved incredible success without the work of people you may never have heard of, such as DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa.
